Learned Helplessness: A “Plague” Everyone Needs to Heal From

This. A thousand times this.

Everyone has experienced learned helplessness, the feeling that you can’t do it on your own, that you need someone else to get you where you want and need to be. Most people feel this way. It’s hard not to with the way our world works nowadays, where it’s “all about who you know,” your relationships, and your “connections.” But after watching this, it made me realize that people are going about it the wrong way.

It’s not a matter of getting to know the “right” people first and then hoping they’ll help you get to your goal, rather, you should do everything in your power to get to your goal first and everything else, including the connections you’ll make and your eventual success, will naturally fall into place on the way.

While true, connections can be helpful, they are more like supporting characters in your story; they can’t be relied on to rescue you. They aren’t reliable saviours for when you want something, only you are. We all need to stop waiting for someone else to show us the way out of our current situations and just find it ourselves, try something different, and KNOW that there IS a way to get where we want to be.

It always seems impossible until it’s done. ~ Nelson Mandela

Like the dogs that are referenced in this video (I feel for them 😦 ), we are all perceiving limitations that aren’t really there and it’s up to us to recognize that. It’s bloody hard to overcome it, but it’s possible. You have the power. YOU HAVE THE POWER!! This video is worth watching repeatedly to help remind you of this, try once a day for four weeks and see if it helps; I know that’s what I’ll be doing.
